YO! Sushi

 A friend of mine recently got taken on date to a sushi-making class and so sushi's been the talk of the moment for me; I couldn't stand it until earlier this year when I found out how delicious it actually is and going to a sushi bar (with a conveyer belt and all!!!) was next up on the list of dining places to visit. We passed YO! sushi and went on in. Quick, more filling than you'd think, healthy plus a fun way to eat your lunch. You also get to watch the sushi chef make the sushi which is actually pretty fascinating. The food was not as great as I'd hoped it to be; the sushi bought at my local Tesco tastes the same. But, if you're wanting to try out a new dining experience, a Sushi bar (like YO!Sushi), I would totally recommend it.

Also, felt rude taking photos so tried to do snap them quite subtly.

 

Both ordered katsu curry and assorted maki but you can also just help yourself to whatever appeals to you on the conveyor belt

Tourist in London

A few of my friends were going to a gig in the night (a gig which I couldn't get tickets for) but we decided to make a day of it. London is one of my all time favourite cities and living only 30 mins away from the centre is a complete bonus! A lot of us have exams approaching and we needed a break-spending time with our friends is the perfect way. The sun came out to play and we had such a brilliant day - ha that rhymed.

The Staves 05/11/2013

The Staves - St. Georges Church, Brighton
Tuesday 5th November 2013

 Gigs in a church are always beautiful- I love church architecture oops- but The Staves gave it another level of beautiful. Truly angelic (get it?!).The folk trio of sisters, harmonizing as 1, gave a hauntingly stunning and intimate performance. Range of songs from their debut album 'Dead Born and Grown', favourites were Wisely & Slow and Mexico.

May or may not have got a bit sleepy towards the end. Not because they bored me, but a few songs were a perfect lullaby.

 To start off, what a LAD. Yes, lad. A lot of interaction with the audience, stories were told, laughs all around, tears were shed; what a beautiful performance given by Passenger AKA Mike Rosenberg. After hearing 'Let Her Go' months before, I could not let go (you should be used to my punniness) of Mr Rosenberg's sold out homecoming gig. Most songs created a pin drop silence, captivating every single person in the room. No backing track used, no backing track required honestly; him and his guitar was enough. Incredible voice and extremely talented musician.

Bonus: Passenger covered my all-time favourite song: Sound of Silence- Simon & Garfunkel and it was mesmerising.

The Blue Pursuit

Young talented indie band 'The Blue Pursuit',  from Surrey, are just another step ahead in pursuing their dreams. (aha, punny).  At the age of around 16-17, the 1D haired boys have self-produced their first demo and are playing small venue gigs around their local area generating an already a decent sized fan base. Overall, the demo, consists of 5 tracks. They describe themselves as being hugely influenced by the likes of Eric Clapton and The Black Keys which is portrayed through their tracks. Though, there is an unexpected reggae feel to the teenagers.  Tracks such as 'Downtown' are also incredibly catchy. For their first demo, The Blue Pursuit have succeeded. Though I'm expecting much more from these guys next time.

Two Door Cinema Club 08/02/2013

The crowd already pumped from the support acts, on came the Irish trio. Opening with the first (and fave) song from their latest album 'Sleep Alone' surely kept the crowd ready for the rest of the night. The indie band Two Door Cinema Club kept a constant 90 minute dancy and purely energetic set.

Around half way through the act, Alex Trimble (the ginger lead) came onto stage with a cuppa claiming he was losing his voice - later found out this was due to a throat infection- however, we could not tell. Trimble' voice was on pitch through out the whole gig. 

It was perfect. In this sense, I was dissapointed overall with their performance as it was a complete replicate of their two albums. Very little improvisation.  

I'm writing this in a hurry. I will get back to it when I have the time sorry

Mumford & Sons 11/12/2012

It's hard to believe that they had only released their first album 3 years ago. Mumford & Sons' success has been phenomenal taking the world by storm; a refreshing musky storm of folk, bluegrass, pop and rock.The lights went down and a sudden surge of anticipation and excited muttering flooded the arena. A rusk sound of the banjo begins and the Gentlemen of the Road curtain falls dramatically sending the crowd insane. Stood on stage, we see 4 straggly folks in their rolled up sleeved shirts - the never changing look of these overly talented gentlemen.

Rootsy opening with Babel, title track of their most recent album (and possibly my favourite song off the album) told me that in this show, I would see no fault. I was right. The emotional connection to Mumford's music is intense; performances of tracks were truly captivating and taken in by every single of the audience. Ghost That We Knew had been particularly personal and it wasn't until Winston shouted 'There's shitloads of you out there', I realised I wasn't alone and 18,000 others were in the arena.

Everyone’s all-time favourites Little Lion Man and The Cave both performed with a ground- shaking, vivacious singalong from the crowd . After a jaw-dropping acoustic set in the middle of the standing area, Marcus Mumford and his 'sons' made their way back to the stage to end with an incredibly fun, loud and a song defining the bands progress over the years was the unprecedented Beatles' tune With a Little Help From My Friends.  

After waiting so long to see them, the boys gentlemen met up to my exceedingly high expectations. The crowd were deafeningly delightful (and dangerous at times), most tracks from both albums were played and they definitely gave their all (get it haha).  All-in all, I left with the same opinion I had when I went in...Mumford & Sons are perfect.

Extra bit and me on a bit of a ramble hype:

 Following them for over 4 years, purchasing their Tour of Two Halves tickets was something I had been saving up for since I was 13 years old and my parents had said no to their previous tour(17 now). I had first heard about Mumford & Sons back in 2008 as they were starting their rise in the music industry. Me and a friend would sit in class and sing aloud whilst those surrounding us had no clue of who we were singing. Now, everywhere we turn, a Mumford track is playing. It kinda gives you this proud mother sort of feeling. I know it's not been long- but with some music- you can just feel a connection (cliche) and yes, I feel that connection with Mumford's music.
